Upper Room / Pre-Labeled

This Friday night is our Upper Room / Pre-Labled Concert night extravaganza. Upper Room starts @ 7pm (we are going to start at 7 so be early) and goes until 9pm with worship, David sharing about Ephesians, games, and Small Groups.

9-10pm is the Pre-Labled concert. They are going to do a bunch of covers and it will be loud and exciting!

It is going to be a lot of fun so invite your friends for the whole night. Also, remember to read Ephesians and come with any questions you might have for discussion. See you all this Friday night @ DCC

Family Movie Night

This Friday night we are having a family movie night at the church. We will be watching Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. Meet at the church @ 6:30. We need help serving popcorn, hot chocolate, and other treats to the families attending. Invite your whole family to come because it is going to be a lot of fun.

Upper Room

Friday night is Upper Room! We will starting a new series about the letters of the apostle Paul. We will have an introduction to Paul and even write some of our own letters to the early church. Worship, games, and small groups. N-Z bring a snack and everyone bring a friend!

Next week, there will not be Upper Room because there is a family movie night at the church. Youth are invited to come and watch “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” with their families or volunteer to help.

Also, there will be a parent meeting this Sunday from 9-10am in the youth room. We will be discussing the results of the surveys and some of the events coming in this Winter and Spring. Any questions feel free to contact me. Thanks!

Small Groups

Jr. Girls
This week for small groups we will continue our book study at katie shaws’ house (89 Hawkside Road NW) from 6:15-9:30. Please make sure you bring a snack this week and come on time! see you then.

Guys (Jr. and Sr.)
Meet at Kyle’s House: 104 Hidden Ridge Close NW
Time: 7:30 – 10:00 (Pick up from Kyle’s house at 10:00)
Event: We will be gathering for a bit to talk about the 4th chaper of Blue like Jazz. Then video games/board games for the rest of the night. If someone could bring an x-box and their games.

A couple of us will be at Youth Advance @ Bethany College in Sask. Pray for a safe drive and a great weekend.

Pool Party
6-8 pm @ Village Square Leisure Centre
This Friday we are going to have a pool party for youth! We are going to meet at the Village Square Leisure Centre (2623 56 Street NE) from 6-8pm. After 8pm it is teens only so we will have to leave. If people want to hang out afterwards at someone’s house make plans before so we are not scrambling for rides after.

Bring $4 and a friend, and don’t forget your swimming suit. Drop off and pick up @ the Village Square Leisure Centre.

Sledding @ Edgemont Park

Sled-a-Rama
We will be meeting at Edgemont Hill (John Laurie Blvd. / Edgemont Dr. NW) (map) from 7-9pm.

Please bring your skates for the skating rink or a sled to go sledding. I will have hot chocolate, coffee, hot cider, and snacks at the hill. Bring cookies to share

Also, if you are planning on coming to Jr. High Camp next weekend (1/15-17) you need to register by this Sunday. Camp costs $116 (+$10 for gas). Be sure to pack your sleeping bag and pillow, toiletries, warm clothes, a sled, a Bible and notebook, and clean clothes.

Christmas Party

This Saturday night from 6-9pm we will be celebrating Christmas with the DOOR annual Christmas party. We will meet at the church from 6-9pm.

Here is what to bring:
1. Wear an ugly/awesome christmas sweater. There will be a prize for the craziest sweater. We will also have a photo booth set up so you can get a picture in your lovely sweater.
2. Bring some Christmas baking (cookies, gingerbread, or other goodies). I am sure you have tons of it lying around the house so steal a plate or two and bring it to share.
3. A used or $10 gift for the gift exchange.
4. We will have food and drinks – so don’t eat before! Pizza time!

An Upper Room Christmas

This Friday is Upper Room and we will be focusing on Connecting with Christ at Christmas. There will be small groups, games, a devotion about Christmas and a secret surprise! There wont be any worship team this week but we will be playing Christmas music all night! Invite your friends! N-Z bring snacks to share.

Skate church is going to set up the ramps in the gym so bring a skateboard and a helmet if you wanna skate.

We will also be looking at some of the exciting things coming in 2010.

Slow Down

One of the best things about blizzards is that the entire city shuts down, the police tell you to stay home and off the roads, and you are forced to slow down. Our lives get going so fast and we end up running from place to place, non stop, never really taking anytime to slow down and enjoy the small moments of life.

I know that I am guilty of doing too many things and never slowing down. When I am forced to stay in because there are giant snow drifts outside of my window and all over the road it is almost like a little vacation. A time to stay home and spend time with my family and with God. A time to drink hot chocolate and curl up with a good book or the Bible.

I encourage you to take advantage this storm to spend some extra time with God. Here’s what I am going to do: I am going to read the book of Galatians and drink some hot coffee. I am going to slowly read God’s word and allow it to warm my heart and soul. I am going to take the time to allow God to engage my heart as the snow falls outside. What are you going to do?

The blizzard outside is an opportunity to slow down and really spend some extra time connecting with Christ. I encourage you to take advantage of it and see what happens.

Sr high guys – read the first chapter of Blue Like Jazz because you will be discussing it this Friday.

Jr. High Girls
Meet at Katie Shaw’s (89 Hawkside Road NW) house from 6:30-9:30 to finish the movie and start reading our book.
Make sure you bring your bible and a friend!
