This Friday night from 7-9:30pm we are going to be having a movie night instead of sled-a-ramma. There is no snow so I guess sled-a-rama will have to wait until 2013.

Instead we are going to watch the movie Courageous. This is a faith based film which talks about the need for Christians to stand up for what they believe in. Here the synopsis:

Four men, one calling: To serve and protect. As law enforcement officers, Adam Mitchell, Nathan Hayes, David Thomson, and Shane Fuller are confident and focused. Yet at the end of the day, they face a challenge that none of them are truly prepared to tackle: fatherhood. We are going to meet at the church for Upper Room from 7-9pm. It would be great if you all could read Romans 12:6-8, 1 Corinthians 12:1-11, 28-31 and Ephesians 4:11-16 in advance. You should also bring your bible with you as well.

Next week, we have Life Groups. I will have maps on locations on Friday for our life group host homes this semester.

We will meet by the Starbucks (near Sport Chek) in the mall promptly at 7pm and end the evening at Market Mall at 9pm. The game will begin at 7:15 so don’t be late. Invite your friends to come out for a fun night at Market Mall!

We will reschedule Sled-A-Ramma for Feb. 3rd instead. I assume we will have snow by then, or maybe we can skip winter this year. With the reschedule of sled-a-rama, the missions trip, and my 30th birthday we are going to cancel Youth Advance this year. We will not be going as a group this year, but will definitely be going next year!!

Also, come out to DCC this Saturday morning from 9am – noon for a bottle drive to raise money for the Sr. High missions trip. Anyone can come because the more people we have, the better. You can also drop off any bottles you may have at the church from 9-12 as well.

The first part of the party will be practicing for the youth advent Sunday on Dec. 18. We will be going over the skit and the song (Feliz Navidad / Mary’s Boy Child). After that we will have some goodies, a gift exchange, and play some Christmas games.

You need to bring:
A costume. The theme is The Nativity so dress up like your favorite character from the nativity story
A gift. $10 – 15 max to exchange
Christmas baking or an appetizer to share

This is our last youth event of the 2011 so make sure you don’t miss out on a really fun Christmasy evening.

Also, this Sunday is the youth advent Sunday. We will be leading worship, doing a skit, and singing Feliz Navidad at the end of the service. Invite your friends, family, and neighbors to come to church @ 10:30am.

There will also be a bake sale to raise money for the youth mission trip so bring your cash to buy some yummy cookies.

This Saturday at 8:30am we are going to be going to meet at the church for a community outreach. We will be downtown from 8:30 – 10:30 (back at the church around 11:00am).

That means there is no youth on Friday night it’s all happening on Saturday.
Here is what’s happening.

Jr. High Guys, Girls, and Sr. High Guys

Meet at the church on Saturday at 8:30am. We will have a brief 15-20 minute orientation going over how to talk to a person on the street, what information you can and cannot give out, and how to listen and love them as Christ would! We will be at two locations just outside the mustard seed and at olympic plaza. Socks are a big need on the street! If we give out socks as well, it would be a big hit!
So bring socks to hand out to people in need and money / transit pass to ride on the train.

Sr. High Girls

Meet at the church at 8:30am on Saturday to volunteer in the resource centre at the Mustard Seed. Please bring socks for the Sr. High guys to hand out to people in need and money / transit pass to ride on the train.

The change is that all of the Jr. High will be joining the Sr. High guys to hand out coffee, hot chocolate, and socks to people in need on Saturday morning. If you as a parent don’t feel comfortable with your son or daughter going downtown, join us and serve together. I am bringing my son Noah who is 6 years old. Please bring new socks to hand out.

It is going to be a great day.

I will have a big thing of coffee and doughnuts ready for you all bright and early on Saturday morning. There is no youth Friday night, but we will all serve together on Saturday.

God’s heart is for the poor, broken, and destitute and it is our job to respond. I think it is essential that we respond – so we will be doing just that this week.

Meet at DCC (not my house) this week from 7-9pm. We will have a few stations were you can do something for those in need. Respond with love, creativity, and grace.

Bring money…all the money you can find because we will be collecting money for our sponsor child with Compassion.
